Tasman Youth Council presents World Record Smash Robot Dance

Keen to show us your mad robot skills?

Tasman Youth Council brings Guinness World Records to Richmond as a part of the region’s celebration of Youth Week. On Friday 25 May, be sure to bring your robot moves along to Waimea College as the Waimea cluster of the Tasman Youth Council try to SMASH the current record of Largest Robot Dance.

Guinness World Records show that the current record was set in 2010 by Adlai E. Stevenson High School in the United States, with 525 students participating. We think we can beat this!

Register on the day to ensure that your name is counted as one of the record-breaking participants. There will also be spot prizes, such as an iPod Touch, for participation and best moves.

Tasman Youth Councillor AJ Southern comments, “We chose the event to give the Youth of Richmond the chance to be recognised on an international scale, as well as being something fun and different. We think it’d be an awesome thing to be a part of and we hope other students feel the same way!”

There will be a simple choreographed dance routine to learn before the record-breaking attempt, which will be taught on the day. This event is a part of Youth Week 2012 in the Tasman region, and is brought to you by the Tasman Youth Council. For more information, please contact Leigh-Ann on 027 3894914.

Youth Week 2012

Youth Week this year is May 19-27. You are invited to include your Youth Week event in the annual Youth Week brochure.

Youth week is a global event. It originated in 1995 when a handful of youth focussed events scattered across Canada took place in an attempt to raise the awareness of young people and celebrate their achievements.

In the years to follow Youth Week grew on a global scale, with countries all around the world, including NZ supporting and celebrating young people and their contribution towards the world we live in.

For the third year Nelson Tasman Youth Workers Collective (NTYWC) and the agencies collaborating for Youth Week will be producing a brochure outlining the events happening in Nelson Tasman for youth week. You are invited to include your event in this brochure free of charge.

We intend to produce 2000 brochures which will be distributed to schools, agencies, information centres, libraries, councils etc.

If you wish to have your event included in the brochure you need to have your information to me (Deanne - coordinator@ntywc.org.nz) by 12 noon Thursday April 12th. Sorry, no late entries will be able to be included.

Please include the details as listed below.

Some Ideas
The Theme of Youth Week this year is "Love the Skin You're in" and the dates are May 19-27

For those who have yet to decide what they might deliver during youth week The New Hub sent a questionnaire to secondary schools and received 1000 replies about what young people would like to see happening for them, not necessarily during youth week , but this may help with ideas for Youth Week events.

Based on the results The New Hub received they will be putting on the following events (although not all in Youth Week!)

These cover the most popular and frequently mentioned events that young people would be keen to attend.

Dubstep
Hip Hop
Reggae/ Drum & Bass
Bands at Skate Park
UV Paint Party
Amazing Race
Theatre/Drama
Movie Night
Pop
