Info sessions on life skills for school leavers
May 3rd, 2017
The Motueka High School Library is joining forces with the Motueka Public Library to run a series of information sessions aimed at providing year 13 students with some basic living skills.
Going under the name "Opportunities beyond school", the sessions will be held in the high school's hall and will be followed up by break-out sessions at the Motueka Public Library, which will be more hands-on.
The school hall sessions will be during school time and only for students, while those at Motueka Library will be in the early evening and will also be open to parents and caregivers.
Subjects covered will include things like employability skills, CVs and cover letters, dress codes, budgeting, job seeking skills, renting and flatting, cooking, wwoofing, WINZ and having a gap year.
The first session was in April, and they will run through to August.
Here is the timetable of the remaining break-out sessions at Motueka Library:
- May 18, 6pm: Money management with Motueka Family Service Centre budget advice co-ordinator Sue Savile
- May 31, 6pm: Ray White's Jesse Hedges on renting and flatting
- June 30: 6pm Life coach Sandra Quiggin looks at cooking
- August 16, 6pm: House of Travel's Diane Boyes explores taking a gap year
