Thoughts of the "Grumpy Old Men"

The Grumpy Old Mans Club meeting from time to time at Resurgence Coffee in Riwaka, around 2 pm. Numerous topics discussed and twisted answers to these problems or issues. On this page we have some of the topics they have raised since the beginning of 2010.

Ligar Bay batches
[Posted: April 23rd, 2011]
Grumpy Old Men where notified today regarding the issue in Ligar Bay Takaka. Mike Hoskings on the tele had all parties to give their view on why the TDC had made the decision to have the batches bulldozed. Richard Kempthorne refused to appear but did say the decision was a hard one to make, which is utter rubbish.

A (humorous) suggestion for helping Christchurch earthquake refugees
[Posted: March 4th, 2011]
Apart from the usual discussion about those poor buggers down there and it's great how the whole country is pitching in, one of the contributers to the grumpy old mans club came up with a novel way to help a certain group of unemployed that frequent the night up certain streets of the CBD of Christchurch.

Grumpy Old Men's Club resurges
[Posted: November 25th, 2010]
It's about time the Grumpy Old Men said something. We have been fairly quiet over the past few months and we see that a lot has been going on. Nice to see that the council has been questioned about numerous topics, but in reality I haven't heard the results of many of these.

William Cleaver's 50th birthday reflections
[Posted: September 2nd, 2010]
September 3rd 1960 was the day I was born so that makes me 50 this year. I have longed for this moment for I can now get a community services card which means cheap movies, bus fares and discounts from select retailers. Does this mean I get go to the movies on a bus wearing my new knee high socks, roman sandals and walk shorts?

The TDC Survey on facilities and services
[Posted: June 9th, 2010]
We would be interested in the content of this survey to be held from June 11-20th. As with most impartial surveys that report to a higher body, the questions are normally in favour of that body.

Traffic problems during roadworks
[Posted: June 7th, 2010]
Why is that at the northern end of town we were reduced to one lane and at in the middle of town we still had two lanes running when the opportunity for a detour was greater.

The TDC - Our Cost, Our Risk
[Posted: May 27th, 2010]
It seems once again that there are a lot of people out there unhappy with the TDC. Roading, bypass, stopbank, water reticulation, and cycle ways are being bashed about in verbal one contender boxing matches and now we have added a few more to the ring.

Busking in public
[Posted: April 29th, 2010]
Well what can one say about the decision of the TDC to ask for Buskers to have a permit? I do agree with the council on the issue of blocked pathways and the odd Busker making a nuisance of themselves.

How many old cars does Motueka have?
[Posted: April 9th, 2010]
The Grumpy Old Mans Club (Penny University), which meets at Resurgence Coffee, has been noticing the many old cars passing their cafe each day, prompting them to ask this question and to suggest that Motueka should host our own car club or make a annual event.
