Show-Hunter and Show-Jumping Show  

Will run on Sunday 26th February, 2012. The Schedule includes everything from Training to Open/High Points, and all classes attract prizemoney. The grounds will be irrigated. The Motueka Agricultural & Pastoral Association was formed 1935, and is based at Marchwood Park.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Hold annually an agricultural/horticultural show.
  • Showcase the development of agricultural, pastoral, forestry, horticultural, stock-raising, equestrian and other associated activities in the District.
  • Abide by the rules of the Royal Agricultural and Pastoral Association of NZ.
  • Administer Marchwood Park for the benefit of the community.
  • Utilise Marchwood Park for the benefit of the region and to encourage the involvement of young people in suitable cultural and sporting activities.
  • The Association may carry out other activities, as decided by its General Meeting. Such activities will be aligned to the intent of the rules of the Royal A&P Society, and to the A&Act.

MARCHWOOD PARK

Located to the west of the Motueka Aerodrome, Marchwood Park is a beautiful piece of the Motueka community, with its protected native trees, wide open spaces, extensive seating and shade, and excellent facilities. The park is administered by the A&P committee, elected in June of each year.

Membership to the Association is open to the public, and is currently set at $15 per annum. Membership entitles the holder to gate passes for the annual show, reduced competition entry fees, and voting rights at the AGM.

USES OF THE PARK

The park is available to community groups, schools, sports groups and families. Current users include:

  • Motueka Pony Club has their home ground at the Park, and welcome newcomers. They meet on the second Sunday of each month.
  • The Remote Control Car Club have a purpose-built track on the park, and meet casually. Contact Kris Krammer.
  • Nelson Bays Pony Club have a full-size Equestrian Cross-country course on the grounds, which is open on specific competition days, which are advertised.
  • Currently the Dressage Group are running a dressage series over the winter months, and welcome all-comers. The contact is Sue Clark.
  • There are also many national instructors who use the park for training clinics, including Jill Ullrich, show-jumping and show-hunter trainer. Enquiries regarding Jill's clinics should be directed to Trish Palmer. Other training opportunities with instructors are normally advertised by the course co-ordinators.

ANNUAL A&P SHOW

The A&P runs it annual show during the first weekend of December each year, with the day for the public being Sunday.

The event showcases everything from preserves and cheeses, baking and handcrafts, through to goats, poultry and equestrian. Children and adults alike enjoy the animal nursery, original Merry-Go-Round, and the numerous entertainment and trade sites. Vintage machinery, dog trials, highland dancing all feature as popular attractions.

Each year, the annual show hosts the Tasman Karaoke final, with the singers being drawn from heats run over the Tasman district for some weeks prior.

MOTOR CAMP

The association also runs a camp for Motor-home Association members, offering sites to folk whose vehicles must be fully self-contained and mobile. The camp is looked after by the on-site Caretaker, who should be contacted directly if you wish to book a site. The campers hold regular social activities.
